The study focuses on the weldability of heavy plate steel (E36/S420ML) for offshore applications. The motivation for investigating welded joints in such applications is the increasing complexity of production and the need for durable structures. The paper examines the microstructure and mechanical properties of 120-mm welded joints after submerged-arc welding (SAW) with different heating inputs. The microstructural state, hardness, impact energy, and fatigue resistance of critical heat-affected zones (HAZ) are analyzed. The research concludes that the micro-alloyed steel with controlled carbon content demonstrates good resistance to static and dynamic loads in the welded joints, making it suitable for critical applications. The findings were used to successfully certify heavy steel plates for offshore standards and regulations. The study contributes to enhancing the reliability of welded structures in demanding environments.
